As a religious tradition dates are of most used in Ramadan month; when spirituality meets servants of Allah. As a part of breakfast table in the dusk or a sweetener in the dawn before Azan, dates are fresh friends of the Muslims. Dates are mentioned 20 times in Quran and also according to a Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said this to Ayesha (ra), his beloved wife: “O Aisha! A house with no dates in it, their family is hungry”. This shows the importance of dates in the Islamic tradition which also builds a healthy habit of using nutrient and energy rich food instead of fast-food.

Not only Muslims, but also many heavy sports athletes always keep dates close to themselves; since the moment they feel they need energy, they have a very lightweight source of energy with them. Many of the professional hikers always take dates as fresh or dried snack with them during their hike. This is because they know exactly how important it is to have clean, lightweight energy source with you on a long and hard activity. Also, dates being a great snack, they are the products of mother nature and no extra sugar is added to it. Add to this the wide range of vitamins and other useful elements in the dates, to enjoy the extra bonus of mother nature.
As a fruit and a nutrient for food, dates are used in many different ways and combined in many different foods and snacks which makes them a lovely taste of heaven. Dates as dried fruit are one of the most healthy snacks for the midday or on a treadmill run. Other than snack you can make smoothies with dates and enjoy a energetic drink. Add some hazelnut or almonds to you date smoothies and there you go, ready for any challenge! This heavenly fruit grows in most countries in middle-east, however the varieties, quality and premium taste that you are looking for are in no other place than the geography of Iran. The land of ancient traditions, rich culture, and tasty cuisine. Most of Iran’s date, knowns as Iranian Khorma, is planted in south, south-west of Iran, the dates of Kerman, Khuzestan.

The grove or more accurately nakhlestan is the garden of date trees; Iranian farmers believes dates to have human characteristics and due to this old belief, they use the same counting unit as humans for the dates trees (palm trees). The trees are cared for like a baby human and farmers always caress their trees with care and honour. In many Iranian songs of love and romance, nakhlestan and date gardens are a piece of the scenery, since we believe that trees have the feeling and embrace the love of humans, and that is the reason for sweetness of their fruit. Date seeds have a very scrutiny procedure for planting.
The process is not far from caring from a baby human and you have to keep them clean and well-fed. Once they bloom after several weeks, you can plant them in the soil and then starts the parent-hood process. The plants need proper care, plenty of water and nutrient soil to grow. Not only these items shall be prepared, but as humans, date plants need a partner and they cannot make the sweet dates without their male/female partner. These characteristics are not seen in many plants and the reason for their popularity seems to have seeds in this aspects of their life also. Their pollination should be done on timing and this could not be a loose process.

Once the process of care has been done, the plants start to grow their sweet fruit. At this time, most care is needed, since the fruit branches are mostly full and very heavy. Once the date are ready, the branch is removed from the tree and goes to a sorting process.
This will help a final product which is premium quality and luxurious. From this time on, the next round of care and cleaning of the plant starts, and the old branches are pruned in order to make place for the fresh and new ones.
Sorting process on the parallel is going on for the dates to avoid bad or damaged fruits, and sampling of random batches acts as the QC.
We here at KIE FZCO partnering with KT1, we consider the whole process an art and the farmers as artist. We are closely in contact with our farmers and have the process of production under scrutiny eyes, since we believe our customers are worthy of tasting the right taste.
We strictly restrict the use of chemical fertilizers and encourage our farmers to provide organic fruits. Regular and sudden visits from the gardens are a way in which we keep the quality at the prime state.

On the other hand, since we are directly in touch with farmers and buy their products directly and in volumes, we help them in the continuity of their process and quality.
KT1 offers a variety of dates for export which are known as Mazafari, Zahedi, Shahani, Raabi, Piarom, Kabkab and some other less know dates ready for international markets. Mazafati dates of Iran shows the excellence of quality and health and are among the most exported dates of Iran. Piarom and it’s special colour and taste is also getting more and more attention in international markets. Kabkab date has been left aside for long time, but nowadays this variety of date is becoming a major competitor for Mazafati date. Kabkab dates are mostly honoured for their special taste and sweetness and they attract special buyers.
